On 26-28 December in Nizami and Nerimanov local branches of Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society the event were held for elderly people by the initiative of President of “Hilali Group” company Elgun Hilal and which were organized by Fundraising department of Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society. The main aim of this event was to provide food parcels to elderly people who are registered in Nizami and Narimanov districts and to wish them a happy New Year and congratulate “ The Solidarity day of World Azerbaijanis” .

The 18th General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the International Federation) took place from 23 to 25 November 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland. This was followed by the meeting of the Council of Delegates which was held on 26 November 2011 and the International Conference of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement which was held from 28 November to 1st of December 2011. We have to mention that the General Assembly of the International Federation takes place once in every two years, and the International Conference takes place once in every four years.

“The International Volunteers Conference” was held from 14 to 18 September in Budapest city, the capital city of Hungary. The Conference was devoted to 10th anniversary of “the International Volunteers Year” that was announced in 2001. The International Volunteers Conference was organized jointly by UN Volunteers and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The representatives and volunteers from more than 80 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the representatives from the Headquarters of the United Nations Organization and its representations in the world, the representatives from the leading international organizations working with volunteers participated at the conference. In general, more than 200 people participated at the Conference.

European Network AIDS (ERNA) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was established in 1996 with the purpose of preventing the spread of AIDS/TB. At present the Secretariat of ERNA is functioning at the Red Cross Society of Byelorussia. From 23 to 26 September, 2011 the 15th meeting of ERNA was held at “Debeli rits” Youth and Health Center in Slovenia. The motto of the 15th meeting of ERNA was “Humanitarian diplomacy in the field of AIDS/TB”. This meeting brought together the representative of 35 National Societies of Eastern Europe and Middle Asia. The Head of the Europe zone of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Anita Underlin, a coordinator for TB programs of the European Office of the WHO Pyerpaolo de Colombani and professionals for AIDS/TB also participated at the meeting. The participants of the meeting emphasized the importance of humanitarian diplomacy in preventing the spread of AIDS/TB and drug-abuse in the world.

The cooperation of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society with Baku Rotarakt Club was highlighted in “Yeni Tefekkur” newspaper. This cooperation has been continued in Gurban holiday as well. Thus, the members of Baku Rotarakt Club prepared mutton and food parcels for 10 the most vulnerable families. The mentioned food products were distributed by Yasamal local branch of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society to the most vulnerable families. The vulnerable families thanked both the members of Baku Rotarakt Club and the staff of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society. On the eve of Gurban holiday an advisor of Humanitarian relief department of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society Ali Aliyev, head of “Health and Care” department Matanat Garakhanova and a chairman of Yasamal local branch of the Az.RC Shahin Huseinov visited the elderly alone people and gave food products to them. The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society always conducts charity actions and inspires people to involve in charity actions.
