Bishkek meeting on planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

On 8-10 December 2010 a meeting on planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of projects and activities of the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was held in Bishkek city of Kazakhstan. This meeting was organized jointly by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Red Crescent Society of Kazakhstan. The employees of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for Europe Zone Elias Ghanem, Imre Nagi, Eszter Matyeka and Jolt Rieder were invited to the meeting as experts. The National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia participated at the meeting.

Event devoted to World Aids Fighting Day and International Day of Volunteers and Volunteering

On December 3, 2010 there was held an event devoted to World Aids Fighting Day and International Day of Volunteers at the International Mugam Center. The organizers of this event were Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The president of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and a deputy of the National Parliament Dr. Novruz Aslanov, Head of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Office Mr. Firudin Gurbanov and Director of the AIDS Fighting Center attached to the Ministry of Health Mrs. Hegiget Gadirova delivered speeches to the participants of the event.

Regional Leadership meeting in Kiev

Regional meeting was held with participation of Leaders of Russian speaking Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies, the president of IFRC and representatives of ICRC in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine on 21-22 October, 2010. The meeting was organized by IFRC and Ukraine Red Cross Society and ICRC. The main goal of the meeting was discussion of preparatory issues of 2011 Statutory Meetings: “How can National Societies contribute International Red Cross and Red Crescent more effectively”.

A regional meeting on Weapon Contamination Program activities

On October 12-13, 2010 there was held 2 days regional meeting on Weapon Contamination Program activities in Baku city, Azerbaijan. The meeting took place in the office of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan. The main purpose of the meeting was to share experience on weapon contamination projects and activities that the ICRC and Red Cross/Cross Crescent Societies carry out in some countries of the former Soviet Union, to held discussions in this field, to make different presentations. Rasim Allazov, Weapon Contamination program officer of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan, Herbi Elmazi, Weapon Contamination Program regional advisor, Bayram Veliyev, Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society’s Weapon Contamination program advisor, Luiza Hajigeriyva, Weapon Contamination program advisor of the ICRC Delegation in Chechnya, Narina Berikashvili, Weapon Contamination program advisor of the ICRC Delegation in Georgia, Nia Burikashvili, Weapon Contamination program coordinator of the Georgian Red Cross Society, Zenjirbek Keremov, promotion program on mines of the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society participated at the meeting.

Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society started a new project

The tuberculosis is in the first place among the dangerous and widely spread diseases. According to the information given by World Health Organization 2-3 million people die from tuberculosis every year.
Actions on expanded health awareness organization, improving checking up the sick and their treatment among the people, and supplying them with medicine are directed to the struggle against tuberculosis by International and Local Organizations acting jointly with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice in Azerbaijan. Everyone can be infected with tuberculosis by air drop. Tuberculosis is transmitting to healthy person through air at the result of coughing and sneezing. Such transmitting occurs in airless and crowded places.
