Florence Nightingale is famous initiator of the nursing profession and reformations in the hospitals. Florence Nightingale's lasting contribution has been her role in founding the modern nursing profession. She set an example of compassion, commitment to patient care, and diligent and thoughtful hospital administration.

Florence Nightingale was born in a rich, upper-class well-connected English family at the Villa Colombaia.

There are lots of examples for the humanitarian aid implemented in the country scale. The local branches and regional centers of the AzRCS have great role in the implementation of the humanitarian mission. As an example we may say the construction of the safe play area in the Nazirli village of Barda local branch on the 4th of April of this year. The initiators of this project were the members of the municipality, the residents of the village and the teachers of the village school. The teachers Elmaddin Hasanov, Bahruz Gasimov, the residents of the village Khosrov Zeinalov, Eldar Aslanov, Elchin Mammadov, Aftandil Fataliyev supported safe play area project morally and financially.

A charity auction was held in Az.RCS on the 1st of March, 2008. The aim was to gather the sufficient funds for organizing the "Novruz" festivity for the children living in Orphanage house ¹ 2 in Mardakan. Charity auction consisted of two stages. The first stage was organizing the charity auction and gathers the money for the "Novruz" festivity. 15 persons were invited to the auction and the gifts related to the 8th of March - International Women Day was sold in this event.

A delegation of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society made an official visit to Washington, capital of America with the invitation of the American Red Cross Society from 4th to 6th of June. A delegation included the president of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society Novruz Aslanov, executive general Baylar Talibov and the chairman of the Youth Committee Shaban Shayev.

The objective of the visit was to develop the further cooperation between the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and the American Red Cross Society in the framework of the International Red Cross and Crescent Movement's strategy and mission.

There is always a need to the safe donor blood. World Health Organization always puts a stress on such matter as 100% voluntary safe blood donation and invites all the National Societies to take active part in the development of this sphere.

11th International voluntary blood donors recruitment colloquium was held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt on the 12-18th of January, 2008. A colloquium was organized jointly by WHO, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Egyptian RCS.
